Do You Want To Be Healed ?

Do-you-want-to-be-healedWhen Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” John 5:6

Are you suffering from chronic disease? Or are you suffering from prolonged dispute? Or are you unable to come out of your lifetime sins? The greatest assurance is that Jesus knows your problems! The one who knows your problems is greater than your problems. The soothing promise is that we have our Jesus who really cares for us. Peter beautifully brings forth this truth.

casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

In spite of the truth that He cares for us, we do not have a mind to cast all our anxieties on Him. When we are in peril, the Bible says that He is near us.

The LORD is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalms 34:18

No man will be willing to be with us when we are really broken. No one could bear our pain when we are being crushed. People may call themselves as your friends or even call themselves your own brothers and sisters but a simple problem will unveil the faithfulness of their heart that how much they care for us. Jesus went through this situation when He was crucified. Peter denied Him. He said he did not know who Jesus is. Out of fear Peter denied Jesus. He couldn’t stand the challenges that Jesus was facing. His mother Mary was left alone. Nobody was there to comfort her. She could understand the faithfulness of her fellow men and women.

“Indeed, a sword will pierce your own soul too, so that the inner thoughts of many people might be revealed.” Luke 2:35

Do-You-Want-To-Be-Healed-1When trouble comes then only we can understand the heart of our near and dears. But Jesus cared for his mother in spite of His suffering. That is the heart of Jesus. He appeared to a helpless person who was awaiting the support of men around him. They might have said to him, do not worry! This time when the water is being stirred up by the angel I will help you step down in the water. But when time came everyone had left him alone.38 years had passed. So many times the angel came to stir up the water. But he was helpless. The selfish behaviour of his fellow men stirred up his heart in agony. His heart was broken. Now Jesus appeared near to his broken heart. Why He appears near to a broken heart.  The Bible says that He heals the wounded hearts.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” Psalms 147: 3

Are you left alone today? Because of some cruel disease were you unable to spend nights after nights without sleep as no one is there to care for you. Are you betrayed by someone whom you trusted upon? Are you entangled in your sin and sinking in it day by day. Do not worry. Jesus is beside you to help you out.

Ask Him to help your disbelief because of prolonged problems. Jesus healed everyone else saying your faith has saved you. But this man, because of his 38 years of prolonged disease, lost faith. He was used to his disease and bed and had decided to spend his lifetime with sickness? Jesus knew this. Therefore He asked him “do you want to be healed?” The man did not have any direct answer. He had blamed others for his present condition, saying, “No one carried me to the water.”

How long are we going to blame others? How long we are going blame the situation? Jesus is with us to change our life.

“Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked.” John 5: 8-9

Get up – Have a mind to come out of the problem or sickness. Do not allow the sickness or the problem to take over you. Believe that everything will be alright.

Take up your bed – So far the problem had mastered you. Now you have to master it. How did it master you? It is because you allowed it to occupy your mind.

“The Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry, and why has your face fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.” Genesis 4: 6-7

The problem of Cain began through his thought process. The whole earth was in his hands to cultivate whatever vegetables he wished but he was not having a mind to offer the best of his yields. God should be sad because of Cain’s attitude. But on the contrary Cain was sad. So God advised Cain to start doing good else sin will rule over.

and walk – In this world no one may do good for us. But that is not a good reason to stop doing good. 38 years of long suffering stopped this man from doing good and sickness took over him. Forgive and forget the people who are harming you. There are so many others who are in need of your care and love. Take up the problem in your hand to do good to others. Do not allow the problem to take over you.

Having lost sight in his two eyes as a result of a childhood accident, Louis Braille journeyed through his life and developed a reading tool for the blind.

And the lame man began to walk.

“Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.”” John 5: 14

Sin no more – Do not sit on your problem. In spite of your problem do good to others. Jesus wants to say to us “see you are well”.

So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Galatians 6:10

  1. Austin George says:

Beatiful words, although God does not always guarantee physical healing, after all we will get sick and die and go to be with him! However, Im reminded of Jer 29:11, where God says “I know the plans I have for you”- plans for wholeness. Oh yes, emotional and spiritual wholeness is to be envied. As the Proverbs say “a man’s spirit can sustain him in illness”- so true!
