Temptation

James-1-12-678x509Temptation and being tempted is something we human’s face in our day to day life. But God will not put us in a state where the temptation will become overbearing.

Paul in his letter to the Church in Corinth says, “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” (1Corinthians 10:13) So God will put us into only those trials which we can overcome.

Everyone at some point or the other faces Temptations in their lives. Even the great king David succumbed to temptation. Christ too was tempted in the desert for forty days  but had the faith that could not be shaken. “For because he himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” (Hebrews 2:18)

The process to overcoming Temptation is threefold –

Understanding Temptation

The reason why we all face temptation is because it is way to strengthen our faith. Each time you defeat a temptation of yours you move closer to God. “Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11)

Realizing that you are Vulnerable

Realize that we all are vulnerable beings, the more you take pride in yourself that you are unaffected by whatever happens around you, greater will be your fall. It is always okay take refuge in a ‘good friend’ when you feel insecure and vulnerable. ”Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”  James 4:7

Resisting Temptation

The best way to resist to temptation is refocusing your thoughts on something else, the more you try to fight a temptation more it will get engraved into your system. Understanding scriptures and learning few verses will always be helpful, in Luke chapter 4 we can see how Jesus resisted temptation from devil using the word of God as his armour.gal5-16

So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. (Galatians 5:16)

It is really inspiring and more relevant in todays context. We are lured and tempted by the world than by the Word. Now I can understand not that we alone are tempted even Jesus was not spared by satan. In this world pitfalls are more only God alone can make us to stand. I enjoyed the reading and inspired by it. Thanks
