The Stage is Ours

While we are striving hard, not to conform to the pattern of this world, do we conform to the Word of God or do we struggle to not desire the things of this world?

All the World’s a Stage

The Theater and Film industries are flourishing because mankind has an acting bone. While some exhibit this talent on stages and screens, every human exhibits their ability of acting in their day to day life. It starts from a widemouthed smile as a welcome gesture and ends on a sad note of retreat. They also know how to deliver an inspirational speech and how to give a cold shoulder. Basically every human is a versatile actor.

All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players.

“As You Like It” – Shakespeare

Believers, Actors or Phantoms

Believers behave differently on Sundays and are normal during the rest of the week. As such it is difficult to determine which days of a Believer’s life are real and which ones are fake? Do we really not want to conform to the pattern of this world or are we pretending only on Sundays?

Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom; in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth without knowing whose it will finally be.

Psalm 39:6

You can’t wake a person who is pretending to be asleep. If someone is pretending to be a righteous person, they deliberately choose to remain unrighteous, lacking the sense to be cleansed of their sins. As such, it is not of any use for us to try to “wake” them, because they are already awake (cleansed). They have made a conscious decision to pretend otherwise, and in doing so, they fail to participate in the fellowship of Jesus.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 12:2

Be Imitators of God

Mimicry is an art of imitating someone or something, especially in order to entertain people. As a child, it deals with the sounds of birds, animals rail engine, motor cars and aeroplanes. As an adult it deals with favorite actors, eminent speakers and political leaders.

A group of people choose this art as their profession for their livelihood and have confined themselves to a particular life crippling their own expressions. When a particular actor or speaker is growing old and matured, these poor professionals keeps on imitating their attire and accent of earlier decades.

Believers imitate the voice and style of their favorite men of God in singing, preaching and praying, thereby, failing to express what God wants to express through them. Bible teaches us to imitate God and none other.

Therefore, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children. And walk in love, as the Messiah also loved us and gave Himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.

Ephesians 5:1

Peter and Judas

When Peter and Judas pretended to be righteous, Jesus foretold them of the sins they were going to commit. Jesus told that Peter was going to deny Him three times and told Judas to quickly syndicate the plot. Judas made a conscious decision to pretend as a faithful disciple, while Peter chose to repent and seek the fellowship of Jesus.

Commandments and Pharisees

“You were born entirely in sin,” they replied, “and are you trying to teach us?” Then they threw him out.

John 9:34

This was the approach of the pharisees to the man who received his eyesight from Jesus. Pharisees deemed him, the one who was touched by the Savior, to be a ‘sinner’ because they themselves pretended to be righteous, by fulfilling all the commandments.

God gave the commandments to His people to make them understand that without the grace of God, they cannot fulfill even a single commandment. God is waiting with His hands wide open to embrace the people who accept this simple truth.

The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight. I’m no longer worthy to be called your son.’

Luke 15:21

Lukewarm Believers

Sunday after Sunday, believers come to Church to be cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ, committing the same old sins during the week. In the Church they try to present themselves as righteous through their talks, prayers and body language. Yet, they pray to conceal their sins and they never wish to get rid of their sins. They are the followers of Old Testament form of forgiveness which covers the nakedness and shamefulness of a sinner from other’s eyes.

Just As We Are

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.

Revelation 3:15-16

We cannot become righteous unless and until we are cleansed by the blood of Jesus. We have to come to His feet just as we are. Pretending to be something we are not, not only makes us liars but also makes God a liar.

If we say, “We have no sin,” we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say, “We don’t have any sin,” we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

1 John 1:8-10

The stage is ours and let us play our part genuinely, keeping in mind the omnipresence of God.
