Is your faith fetching people to Jesus or driving people away from Jesus? Are you discouraged by the spiritual trait of some people? Here is an encouraging truth from the Bible – especially for you! Come near to Jesus. Do not see the crowd around Him.
We would have come across people who boast about their faith, their prayer life, their purity & discipline. Most of the times these people turn to be a source of discouragement to others. Jesus describes these kinds of people through two parables. One is about a man with two sons and the other is about a prayer of priest and a sinner. (Mt 21:28 -32). First son is immediately refusing his father`s command but later fulfils. The first son is just like a new believer. Though he wants to obey, he does not know how to fulfil His command. Hence, immediately refusing on his father’s face. But the desire to obey his father’s command keeps burning in him and at last he fulfils. He does not bother what people may think about him if he deny. The second son is readily accepting the offer but fails to comply. Why ? His intention is to project himself as an obedient son. Hence he pleases his father by his words but not by his deeds. He is very much fond of what people think about him. A sect of people – Showing off their sacredness just to scare the new believers
Dear Beloved in Christ, Learn not to bother what people think about you; think always about the one (Jesus Christ) who bothers about you.
Ps 55:22 Put your cares on the Lord, and he will be your support; he will not let the upright man be moved. Realise that Jesus always thinks about you and explore in what way you can please Jesus. ( Not others.)
Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is not possible to be well-pleasing to him, for it is necessary for anyone who comes to God to have the belief that God is, and that he is a rewarder of all those who make a serious search for him.
(Luke 18:9-14)In the other parable, Jesus is encouraging the new believers who are all discouraged by the so called prayers of self-righteous people. Here, a priest is praying to Lord, boasting his deeds, believing on his self – his righteousness – his deeds. A sinner who was probably shattered by the priest’s word decided that he doesn`t have a place in the Church to come near to Jesus. So he stood far away and started crying about his helpless situation. He said I am not a righteous person. My deeds are not good. I am sinner. Yet will you please listen to my prayer. Jesus answered the prayer of the latter.
(Mt.19:16 – 24) The rich man came to Jesus – not with the intention of quenching his spirtual thirst by the living water- but to show that he is eligible for eternity had returned from Jesus with great sorrow, as Jesus made him understand his real state. With what intention we are seeking him?
(Luke 19:1 – 10)
A man, named Zacchaeus, who was the chief tax-collector, and a man of wealth, wanted to see Jesus. His intention was not to give hype to his action. Rather, he was afraid of the people from whom he had illegally earned much wealth. Afraid of his colleagues – tax collectors. Yet amidst all these fear he was longing to see Jesus.” Who is he? What he meant for his life? What is the reason that I am unable to control the desire to see him?” He climbed on a tree to have a close look at Jesus. Jesus Said ` Zacchaeus, Come down. I want to come to your house.
Now Jesus and Zacchaeus were walking together. People commented that Jesus is going to a sinner`s house. Somehow, Zacchaeus, could not tolerate this allegation on Jesus. So he had decided to get rid of his sinful nature even before Jesus enters his house.
Lk 19:8-10 And Zacchaeus, waiting before him, said to the Lord, See, Lord, half of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have taken anything from anyone wrongly, I give him back four times as much. And Jesus said to him, Today salvation has come to this house, for even he is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man came to make search for those who are wandering from the way, and to be their Saviour. If your desire to see Him is real, transformation is assured. If your faith is pure, it will bring people to Jesus.(Mt. 12:30) Whoever is not with me is against me; and he who does not take part with me in getting people together, is driving them away.
Dear brothers and sisters, are you discouraged by the act of hypocrites? Take heart. Jesus is very near to you. He loves you. He is really a source of encouragement for you in these peculiar circumstances. Or Are you knowingly or unknowingly a source of discouragement to many. Jesus can change you. Come to Him!
Mt. 18:6-7 But whoever is a cause of trouble to one of these little ones who have faith in me, it would be better for him to have a great stone fixed to his neck, and to come to his end in the deep sea. A curse is on the earth because of trouble! For it is necessary for trouble to come; but unhappy is that man through whom the trouble comes.
